Play The Day Away: Fun Daycare Activities To Try

Blog

Daycare is a great way for young children to learn social skills, play with others, and get a general idea of what to expect in a classroom setting. If you are a daycare provider who is looking to add a bit more magic to your room, the good news is that there are many activities in which children are willing to participate, regardless of their age. Here are just a few examples of some fun activities you can include in your daycare room that will surely be a hit with the kids!

Circle Time

One of the main lessons young children can learn while in daycare is how to listen to others. Taking a moment to truly hear what another child is saying and to then respond will teach a child effective communication skills and respect for what others have to say. Try to introduce circle time into your curriculum, allowing a block of time that will be set apart for the children to participate. Show-and-tell activities can be very fun and effective as well as using circle time to read the class a story. With children gathered around a circle, each individual will be visible to others, allowing their voices to be heard.

Music

You'll soon find that music will be an excellent tool to use to get the attention of your students. Depending on the activity, you can use a variety of music to set the tone of the day or even encourage participation. If your daycare has a block of time set apart for naps, for example, using soft and ambient music will help the children get into a more relaxed state of mind. Soothing instruments such as harps, classical piano, or acoustic guitar are all great examples of what to use for such wind-down times. For more action-based activities such as dancing, on the other hand, songs that have fun lyrics can get everyone moving.

Nature

Children will naturally be drawn to the world around them and may be fascinated by nature. A fun way to include nature in your daycare room would be to decorate according to the seasons and even include lessons on what this time of year represents. Springtime, for instance, would be the perfect time to decorate with bright colors and florals, emphasizing the colors of the blossoming world emerging from the depths of winter. Ask the children to help you decorate pre-cut construction paper flowers, using crayons, markers, glitter, and glue to make the room pop with brightness and joy. Not only will teaching your children about the seasons be a fun way to include a little of the outdoors into your daycare center but will teach them about the fascinating world in which they live.
